MAROON 5?s breakout came with the release of Songs about Jane, which spawned two number one hits and sold more than eight million copies around the world. They continued their hit streak in 2004 when their single ?This Love? was certified platinum after topping Billboard?s Mainstream Top 40, Adult Top 40, Hot Digital Tracks and held the number one spot on charts for four weeks. Maroon 5?s ?This Love? video won the MTV Video Music Award for Best New Artist and was nominated for Best Group Video. In the same year the group?s next single, ?She Will Be Loved? rose to number one on the charts and stayed there for five weeks. ?She Will Be Loved? also topped Billboard?s Hot Digital Tracks, Top 40 Tracks, and Mainstream Top 40. Says? Rolling Stone of Maroon 5?s infectious music, ?They aren?t the first band to fuse R&B and rock, but they certainly are one of the most convincing. One can almost hear Stevie Wonder?s beaded dreadlocks clattering in time to their deep, funky grooves. At best, the band conjures up latter-day Motown, complete with a shuddering organ and hyperbolic vocals. Maroon 5 is a thoroughly engaging outfit, thanks to throbbing bass lines, hooky songs, and lead singer Adam Levin's swaggering delivery.? Maroon 5 lent their musical talents to create ?Woman,? a track for the motion picture and soundtrack to Spiderman 2 in 2004. The band also released a collection of live and acoustic tracks, 1.22.03.Acoustic, which certified gold in less than six months. Over the past few months, they have received the Best New Artist award at the MTV Video Music Awards, a Billboard Music Award and two Grammy nominations. The band was honored by the readers of Rolling Stone, who recently named Maroon 5 the second best band in the world (after U2) with the number 3 single of last year.
