Event Info:
Even non-country listeners could see that TRACE ADKINS was something special. His wise-guy appearances on Bill Maher's Politically Incorrect ABC-TV show became legendary. He starred in Chevy truck TV commercials and Wrangler jean magazine ads. He's been booked for Hollywood Squares. His distinctive, window-rattling baritone has earned him film and television voice-over work in recent years. He?s narrated music shows, home-décor programs and western documentaries. Adkins hosted the 2002 CMT special The Honky Tonk Sound and narrated the acclaimed feature film about a boxer, The Dance, which premiered in March 2003 in Texas. But it is the indelible stamp of authenticity he brings to his life and music that has made his body of work so important. He thrills packed houses across the country with one of the industry's highest-energy shows and has been made a member of the Grand Ole Opry and of the board of directors of the Country Music Association. Both his Comin' On Strong and Trace Adkins Video Hits have been certified platinum, as well as his Greatest Hits Collection, Volume I, which entered the charts at #1. With the release of his latest album, Songs About Me, Adkins is poised for entry into country's elite. With his tender-tough, bottom-of-the-riverbed baritone, Adkins sings country music because he's lived its eventful story songs, which deftly lays out the reasons for the genre's popularity, even to folks who wouldn't ordinarily gravitate to the twangy side of the radio dial. Perhaps anyone could make that song a hit, but it takes a singer of far more subtlety to deliver the incredibly well written "Arlington," a uniquely different type of war song. Elsewhere, Adkins runs the gamut of themes, from the heartfelt ballad "I Learned How to Love from You" to the randy "Baby I'm Home" to the high-octane "Honky Tonk Badonkadonk." If some of it seems like awfully familiar territory, Adkins elevates it to the art of blue-collar soul.
