Born and raised in a city with deep historical roots in blues music, Aurora IL, Joey J. Saye has always been drawn to blues music. Joey J. Saye’s musical journey began when his grandfather gave him a guitar as a child. As a young teenager, Joey J. taught himself how to play blues guitar by listening to records some of his biggest influences Jimmy Rogers, B.B. King, Magic Sam, and Robert Lockwood Jr.

At 15, Joey J.’s musical career began after meeting blues veterans Mondo Cortez and Dave Herrero at a local bar in his hometown. These men served as mentors and introduced Joey J.to Chicago’s larger blues community, which gave Joey J. the chance to develop his craft on stage rather than just at home.

After graduating from high school Joey J. established himself as a musician in DeKalb, securing a residency at The House Cafe. Continuing to develop his craft, Joey J. shad the opportunity to sit in and work as a sideman for a wealth of Chicago Blues musicians and groups including but not limited to the Chicago Blues Angels, Smiley Tilmon, Thomas Holland, Felix Reyes, Dave Gonzalez of the Paladins and Toronzo Cannon.

Grammy award winning blues drummer Kenny Smith took an interest in Joey J.’s songwriting capabilities and helped expand his opportunities, allowing him to play at new and larger venues such as The Smoke Daddy, Navy Pier Landshark Beer Garden, and Horseshoe Hammond Casino.

Joey J. is currently working on putting new original material and is looking forward to the next chapter of his musical journey.
